WE ACHIEVED OUR TARGET FOR HIS FIRST YEAR!
WE ARE NOW FUNDRAISING FOR YEAR 2!

Tout Kimchhean’s family is on the Carpets for Communities program, his mother having produced carpets for CfC. His family has now successfully transitioned into cricket farming. Meeting this family is a great and inspiring experience. Kimchhean’s father is a hospitable, friendly and humble man. When talking about Kimchhean his eyes light up as he demonstrates one of Kimchhean inventions – he looks so proud.

The invention Kimchhean made has become quite famous amongst CFCs followers. While his mother was making carpets and hand rolled T-shirts off cuts manually into the rolled cotton that the carpets are made from, Kimchhean created a machine which rolls the cotton automatically. This piece of equipment, mainly made from scrap wood, saved his family a considerable amount of time while working for CfC. When CfC found out about this invention, it was clear that Kimchhean would be one of the first scholarship students.

As a result of a successful fundraising effort, Kimchhean is currently an Electrical Engineering student at a university in Phnom Penh. Kimchhean is a serious, engaged and motivated student and can be found working on repairing an old house in his free time to practice the skills he learns in school. Besides studying, Kimchhean is getting to know Cambodia’s capitol city. We are happy to report that Phnom Penh is treating Kimchhean well, and that although he misses the quietness sometimes, he is having an amazing time.

Kimchhean is still very engaged in the CfC programs. During a meeting at a market stall, he told customers many stories about how the carpets are produced and about how working with CfC has helped him and his family. Kimchhean is a positive and energetic young student with a bright future ahead of him. We are now fundraising for his second year of university, the costs of which are $2000 p/year. This includes his tuition fee, basic living costs, and other study costs.
