Hing Premprey

WE ACHIEVED OUR TARGET FOR HIS FIRST YEAR! NOW WE ARE FUNDRAISING FOR YEAR 2!

Hing Premprey is a 20-year-old who dreams of going to university in Phnom Penh next year to study Medical Science, but his family cannot afford to fund his studies. Here he would use his degree to become a lab technician to contribute towards improving the health care standards in Cambodia. If given the chance to attend university, he believes he would be able to make a better life for himself and his family.

His favourite subjects at school Include: Maths, English and Geography. In his free time he enjoys reading books and watching TV. If he could not attend university this year, he would get a job in Thailand, in order to save enough money to be able to afford it.

His mother, Ee Ith, has been working with Carpets for Communities since September 2008. Since joining the project, the family’s standard of living has improved by 100%. Despite this, Premprey’s family cannot afford all the costs involved in sending him to university. But, to support him, Ee Ith would be able to provide clothing. Premprey also told me: “although I have no relatives in Phnom Penh, I hope to be able to live in a monk house”

Premprey lives with fourteen other family members in a rural area of Poipet. With the money Ee Ith is earning from carpets, she is able to support her young children through school and pay for good food and health care. However, she cannot pay for Premprey’s tuition fees, accommodation, books and equipment and transportation to and from campus.

We have completed fundraising for his first year of university! the total costs of which total to $2000 p/year. This includes his tuition fee, basic living costs, and other study costs.
