Carpets for Communities and Social Enterprises
CfC focuses on improving income through local and sustainable business initiatives. Micro-enterprising is the means by which CfC aims to empower and enhance the well-being of individuals and communities in Poipet, Cambodia. For us, micro-enterprising means giving people more resources than they would otherwise have access to in order to achieve the expansion of their freedom and well-being This also involves providing support for business development through skills training.
Education and Integration
Through these activities we approach development as a continuum, where the overall well-being of individuals and families is determined by a range of social, health, and economic factors, each impacting on the others. Through this inclusive approach, we are able to ensure that we are providing the appropriate skills to ensure sustainable development, as well as providing short-term relief.
We believe in investing in people. Our participatory approach to development aims to avoid the external imposition of ideas about poverty and development. Our local staff provide essential understanding of local customs, practices, ideals, and needs so that we ensure the community is receiving help that is relevant to their specific circumstances.
The effectiveness of our organisation and programs is ensured by:

Working with Local Partners
CfC understands and appreciates the benefits of working with local development organisations to implement projects. This will continue and become enhanced as CfC grows. Local organisations have a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the communities in which we work. Research shows that as such, projects which are aligned with local partners and their systems, are more likely to be sustainable than those that are not.
CfC balances its hierarchical structure with its empowerment mission by remaining transparent and forth-coming with organisational information and knowledge about long-term strategy, direction, finance and decision-making. In ensuring staff and participants have access to information and are included with respect, CfC guarantees the voices of all relevant stakeholders are considered throughout decision-making.
Due to the organisational focus on empowerment and capacity-building, CfC staff are trained on policies relevant to appropriate staff conduct, management and governance roles. Our staff understands the importance of horizontal management and ensuring that all members and participants of CfC are treated with respect and fairness regardless of their official position in the organisation.
